May 2024 Italian Experience

I am extremely excited to announce my new project, which has been gestating for some years, and will finally take place this summer. During my decades of teaching Italian studies and directing a study abroad program in Italy, I have been asked many times if I could take non-students to Italy... well that's exactly what I'm about to do: I am offering a new way to experience modern Italian history and culture.

Our trip begins in front of your computer through nine (9) online classes intended to give an overview of history and social changes that have defined Italy in the modern era.

During these classes we'll be having special guests; watching films; reading essays, poems and chapters on history, as well as listening to music, all designed to enhance your knowledge of the places we will be visiting. The classes will also cover sensitive socio-political changes that have challenged modern Italy.

Once in Italy, we will be able to sample what we have learned by visiting some historical sites in Rome as well as two museums. We will also visit a few towns around Rome: Cerveteri, an Etruscan town near our residence, Tivoli with its two gorgeous villas (Hadrian Villa and Villa d'Este) and Anguillara with cooking classes by the lake. And, of course, trips to the beach and shopping expeditions in Rome!

See more about the trip below and contact me to sign up.

Ciao, so glad you're here!

I look forward to meeting you and spending time with you: first, in the online classes that will take place prior to the trip, and then, in person in Italy.

We will virtually talk about some important social changes that have affected the modern Italian society and, once in Italy, experience some parts of Rome related to our online discussions, visit a few Roman touristic sites, and explore Rome’s surrounding areas rich of beauty and history.

I hope you enjoy the blogs and everything else with the Italian Cultural House.
